Basic knowledge and familiarity with your camera (whether SLR or point-and-shoot) is required. Bring your camera and fresh batteries, manual, and tripod if you have one plus a 2-D or 3-D work of art to photograph (optional). A handout will be provided.
Teacher: Jeremy Graves of Damianos Photography
A full-time photographer, he is involved with all aspects of photography projects from concept to completion, including estimating, production and retouching. His fine art photography explores site-specific sculptures built on location from natural and man made materials. He chooses very distinct spaces in which to display his work, from deep in the woods to wide open fields, to show how art and environment are integrally linked. Jeremy begins by sketching ideas, scouting the location and then building each sculpture as a site-specific installation. Once the assembly is complete, photography begins as documentation of the act of creation. All sculptures are dismantled upon completion of photography to leave the land as it was. Select images are available as limited edition C-Prints. Jeremy is a faculty member of the Danforth Museum and Joseph P. Keefe Technical School in Framingham.
IPHONE Photography
1 evening workshop
Taught by Dennis Stein
Date: Sunday, March 25, 2012
Time: 9:00 pm–11:30 pm
Cost: $35 M/$45 NM
With the introduction of the iPhone, the world of photography has been forever changed. It has become THE camera for many amateur and professional photographers, opening a whole world of creativity not realized before this. What can be done in Photoshop can now be done on the iPhone and iPad with the help of the many apps developed for this purpose. This workshop will demonstrate the creativity one can reach by simply using the iPhone and the apps.
Teacher: Dennis Stein
Dennis discovered toy cameras in the 1980’s while attending photo workshops in Maine. The resulting images conveyed more of what he wanted the viewer to experience than the “normal” types of cameras. The combination of limited shutter speeds and apertures, along with the plastic lens, freed up his creativity in documenting his vision. He continues to use plastic, as well as pinhole cameras, and started to use the iPhone in September, 2010, using its photo “apps” which help convey the “plastic/retro/vintage” feel to his vision in a digital process.
Dennis has been involved in a number of group shows, including the Bromfield Gallery in 1994, the Woodshed Gallery (Franklin, MA) in 2010 and 2011, Fountain Street Fine Art (Framingham, MA) in 2010 and 2011, Orange Dot (London) in 2011, and Nave Gallery (Somerville, MA) in 2011. He is also a member of the Dedham Square Artist Guild and the Cultural Arts Alliance in Hopkinton.
